1.Kikuyu Wedding

 The Kikuyu cultural wedding is well known as ‘ruracio’. On this day, the groom visits the bride’s family home with his parents and other members of his family carrying gifts such as Sisal baskets (viondos), food or cash. Before the groom’s family is allowed in the brides homestead the women from the groom family sing and handover the gifts to the bride’s family. Eventually they are let inside the bride’s homestead. Women from the bride’s family are wrapped with ‘shukas’ from head to knee and the groom chooses his bride failure to that he must pay a fine. The dressing code of the groom and bride is a brown attire which is embellished with shells. In other kikuyu cultural ceremonies, the couple and their guest wear uniform kitenge which symbolizes the African heritage. Kitenge is a fabric that is made by very skilled tailors and designers.  2.Maasai Wedding

The Maasai community is renowned in the world for its unique and interesting culture that attracts both local and international tourist. Their cultural weddings are full of color, song and dance. On this day the women elders in the bride’s family shaves the girl hair to symbolize the beginning of a new life in marriage. The wedding procession starts with a blessing from an elder who spits out milk outside the bride’s mother house. Grass is tied on the girl shoe that symbolizes the abundance of milk in the community. Women come to cheer the bride as she leaves her village and pledge her with wedding gifts such as sheep and chicken. The mode of dressing during this ceremony is spectacular, the bride wear a necklace made by her mother that is made of beads and cowrie shells. The bride also wears a red dress and on top she has to wear beaded cow skin. She wears a Maasai jewelry around her neck, head, ankles and hand. The groom wears a simple Maasai ‘shuka’ covered with cow skin on top. He also wears beads on his ankles and a beaded head wrap. During the ceremony the Maasai people dance with wooden sticks to symbolize future growth of the marriage.

3.Luo Weeding

In Luo land, marriage is key aspect of life. Remaining unmarried is considered inappropriate. On this day of the ceremony, the bride’s mother prepares chicken and other meals which includes cow meat and rice. The brides serve food and feeds him in front of everyone to signify of everyone to signify her acceptance. Often the food consists of poultry and beef served with ‘ugali’.
