Applications are invited for the following position:

LABORATORY TECHNICIAN, MAP-AMR PROJECT - AD/2/26/22 - (3 POSTS)

The Project

The University of Nairobi, Department of Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics has been awarded

a five (5) year research grant by Centre for Disease Control (CDC) under the title, “Monitor and

Prevent Antimicrobial Resistance in Kenya (MAP-AMR Kenya)”. The Project will be conducted

in three (3) hospitals, namely: Kenyatta National Hospital, The Nairobi Hospital and the Spinal

Injury Hospital (Nairobi). The Project seeks to competitively fill the above named position.

The Position

This is a full time position with two (2) posts based at Kenyatta National Hospital and one (1) post

based at The Nairobi Hospital, with the holder of the position reporting to the Medical Officer.

Job description

 Receiving and scrutinizing laboratory requisition forms/specimen

 Preparing clients for collection of specimen

 Receiving/collecting, labelling and registering of specimen

 Transferring specimen for processing and analysis

 Dispatching the results for clinical management

 Storing blood, microbiological specimen/cultures and other body products according to

their requirements

 Decontaminating working benches

Job specifications

 An applicant must have a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences

 Must be registered with Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists

Board (KMLTTB)

 Must have a valid practicing license from Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and

Technologists Board (KMLTTB)

 Should have a Certificate in Computer Applications

 He or she should have one (1) year experience supporting laboratory activities in donor

funded programs.

 High level of integrity and able to maintain confidentiality

 Be a team player with excellent communication, report writing and analytical skills

 Client service support and public relations.

Terms of appointment

This a position whose tenure is one (1) year contract renewable based on performance and by

mutual consent.
