Course overview
The Certificate in Basic in Insurance Course offered at Finstock Evarsity College is a 1 month online program examined by Finstock Evarsity College. A certificate of completion is issued upon completion of the course.
This is the first introductory course in Insurance. It aims to provide students with the fundamental knowledge of insurance, including the economic theory of insurance, insurance classification scheme, the insurance environment of insurance. The course is designed to equip the trainee with knowledge; skills and attitudes that will enable him/her promote, sell insurance products and provide other insurance services. A graduate of this course will be able to work in either formal or self-employment.
It provides a grounding in basic general insurance principles including the regulatory environment, key disciplines of underwriting and claims, in addition to popular products such as motor, household, healthcare and packaged commercial insurances.
What is the minimum grade required to do a certificate in insurance?
In order to enroll and study in certificate in insurance, a student should have a minimum of C- in their KCSE exams OR a relevant degree, diploma or certificate
Mode of Delivery
Home and/or office-based media employing a variety of self-instructional electronic and online self-study materials, such as; written self-instructional study modules, online interactive devices and self-tests, cloud-based content, videos of lectures mediated technical learning materials e.g., audiovisual and e-learning materials
On completion of this course, students are expected to:
- Understand the basic functions and the underlining economic and legal principles of Insurance.
- Understand the basic operations of an insurance company and the Insurance industry.
- Understand the basic structure and related issues of a generic.
- Insurance contract, understand the responsibilities and code of conduct of agents and brokers.
- Be aware of insurance classification schemes, insurance-related qualifications and regulations
- Be aware of the information problems of insurance.
- Provision and hence the need for social insurance programs.
- Be able to apply their knowledge on the insurance-related legal principles to simple Cases.
- Understand the important implications of cost-control provisions in an insurance.
- Contract, namely, deductibles, coinsurance, and limits, and other simple insurance Clauses.
