Why attitude matters when dealing with change

In the world we are living in today, change is inevitable and seems to be the order of the day.

Attitudes will determine how we react to change and consequently how we manage the change.

When I say “attitude,” what I really mean is how we feel and perceive the world on a regular basis. However, our ‘personality,’ which is based on our beliefs as a result of life experiences and programming, is what determines this. One way to change our attitude is to alter our mental images of the world and consciously instill new feelings in ourselves based on these new images.

Your mind is a powerful thing. If you allow yourself to keep a positive state of mind, your attitude will follow

According to Ackerman (1997) Change is any alteration in the current status of an individual; the status could be social, work related, economic, physical, psychological or otherwise. Change may result from within for instance change in your body. External change is triggered by the external environment such as loss of a job.

According to studies, only 38% of people enjoy getting out of their comfort zones. Whenever these people are dealing with a change, they think, “Hey, this is so exciting.” Positive emotional responses, such as joy and contentment, are prompted by positive change interpretations.

The other 62 percent, on the other hand, when faced with that same exact situation feel fear and discomfort instantly. They may think, “Oh great, this change will have an effect on my career growth.” or “I will not do what I like doing anymore.”

Many life events can catch you off guard—or you may see them coming—and yet you are unprepared when they occur. When it happens, how you react will determine how well you cope.

Sometimes dealing with change can feel like it is draining the life out of you .When things in your life suddenly change and you feel out of control, it may be time to assess your attitude toward what is changing and how it affects you.

Majority of us see change as a threat until they identify that the change is for their benefit. Some have an attitude that change is costly, time consuming, unnecessary, a threat or even a bother, with right information is availed, it creates positive attitudes.

Positive attitudes can be developed by having different views towards change and getting sufficient information about a certain occurrence, expectation, prediction or a future. Need to appreciate change as part of life. Looking at the future benefits of change and comparing with the current benefits. Identifying people with positive attitudes also help to develop positive attitudes. Positive attitudes make you an indispensable in life, people want to be close to you and be part of your life, and the opposite happens when one has negative attitudes.

Our attitude in each moment should be our measurement of personal mastery if we want to willfully evolve and understand ourselves. We are perceptual beings, and our attitude determines the quality of our perception. The significance of attitude can’t be overstated.

A person who has the openness, honesty, and subtlety to recognize the subtleties of their attitude in each moment, as well as the concentration to make necessary corrections, is truly limitless. Seeing as our attitude shapes the reality we live in, as well as the opportunities and experiences we get.

You have no control over what is currently happening in your life, but you do have control over your attitude toward it in every way. As a result, changing your attitude changes your perspective, which changes what you attract into your life.
