Breakdancing,  also known as breaking is a form of street dance that originated in New York City in the late 90s and early 70s with the African Americans incorporating moves from different sources like martial arts and gymnastics. ] Breakdancing is widely known for its uniqueness and explosiveness compared to any other type of dance genre that you can probably think of. Breakdancing have become popular especially in abroad leading to it being added in the Olympics.   Since breakdancing has become such a success worldwide, world’s biggest companies and organisations have showed interest and have offered sponsorships to the breakdancers across the world. One of the companies that have done the most in this area is red bull. Breakdancing being one of the most competitive sports there is, the winners are defined by battles where two people do their best sets of combined footwork ,power moves, and other tricks to impress the judges and crowd.

In Kenya breakdancing was not known to many until one of the best breakdancers from France together with red bull organised one of the best breakdancing battles here in Kenya. This was a big opportunity for Kenya and more importantly to kenyan breakdancers. This is because the winners were to travel to France for workshops and exposure. Different individuals and crews came from all of East Africa but best breakdancing crew king off the street had it all planned. King off the street nailed the battle giving them a chance to go to France for another higher battle known as “battle de vouix. This changed the breakdancing scene in Africa as African breakdancers got inspired and believed that everyone can do it.   Our African breakdancers in one of the biggest breakdancing battles in the world battle of the year. These are our African heroes who we should take time to congratulate and celebrate for putting the African and specifically kenyan name in the world’ map Bboy Jijo and Bboy Drift with other breakdancers from around the world.
