Course Description

Basics In Hydroponics Farming Course

Course overview

The Basics In  Hydroponics Farming Course offered at Finstock Evarsity College is a 1 month online program examined by Finstock Evarsity College. A certificate of completion is issued upon completion of the course.

Hydroponics can simply be said to be the process used to grow plants without soil. It literally means ‘working water’. The grower is taking ‘control’ of the plant's root environment, and losing the benefit of 'mother nature's' finely-tuned mechanisms which normally control that part of the plant's environment.

A hydroponic grower provides the optimal levels of food and water that plants need for growth in the form of nutrient solutions. They can also control the environment in a variety of ways to influence plant growth, such as by providing artificial light, humidity, or by manipulating temperatures.

Hydroponics is not an easier way to grow plants, it is a more controlled way of growing plants.

In this Hydroponic Farming certificate program you will:

  • Learn to grow plants commercially in hydroponics
  • Learn about the equipment and materials used in both amateur and professional hydroponics
  • Discover the nature and scope of this industry and the career and business opportunities it offers.
  • Develop networking, resources, business and technical skills, building a foundation for success in the hydroponic industry.
  • Build a DIY hydroponic rail system garden
  • Grow produce in your home or greenhouse

This course covers many topics, including the basics such as nomenclature and components of hydroponic farms, construction and maintenance of farm infrastructure, cultivation of common crops, and troubleshooting for pests, diseases and nutrient deficiency.

This hydroponics qualification provides sound knowledge of horticultural principles in the culture, use and management of plants in various production situations at supervisory and management level, or as a business operator/owner.

It provides an understanding of modern technology and its application to growing plants, with emphasis on hydroponic production. Skills obtained throughout the course will enable you to set up your own business and feel confident consulting on the use of Hydroponics.
