In the absence of specific donor requirements, organizations must determine how best to implement their projects in a responsible manner. This course covers best practices for managing core components of implementation, including procurement, financial management, personnel, sub awards, reporting, and donor relationship management. Topics will be addressed across the proposal, negotiation, start-up, implementation and closeout stages, to identify key decisions at each phase. Each topic will be examined from the perspective of senior leadership, program staff and operational staff using real-life scenarios.
The course provides the Federal, pass-through, and recipient workforces with the knowledge and skills they need to improve program and public accountability, efficiency, and outcomes for beneficiaries.
This course covers best practices for managing core components of implementation, including procurement, financial management, personnel, sub-awards, reporting, and donor relationship management. These topics will be addressed across the five project stages of proposal, negotiation, start-up, implementation and closeout, to identify key decisions and action items at each phase. Each topic will be examined from the perspective of finance and accounting, program staff and operational staff using real-life scenarios. Potential sources for risk and inefficiency will be used to explore proactive solutions related to monitoring, documentation and process improvement. For Finance staff, Contracts and Grants staff, Procurement staff, Program staff, and Senior project leaders.
Course Objectives
- Identify and understand the critical terms and conditions of grant aid for donor-funded projects
- Ensure compliance with donor terms and conditions
- Understand the donor requirements in relation to supporting documents, correct procurement of goods and services and meeting financial reporting requirements
- Managing multiple-funded programmes
- Understand proposal writing, project planning and problem analysis
- Prepare a donor financial report to match with a project narrative report
- Describe the phases in the grant management cycle clarify key responsibilities and routines needed for successful grant management
