Job Description

To provide high-quality outpatient and inpatient clinical care to patients and IDPs in accordance with MSF/ICRC/Ministry of Health protocols, standards, and procedures.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform patient consultations in the outpatient department (OPD) and inpatient ward (IPD), ensuring accurate diagnosis, treatment, and referral as per clinical guidelines.

  • Manage common medical conditions, including infectious diseases (malaria, TB, HIV/AIDS), non-communicable diseases, and malnutrition.

  • Provide comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services, including antenatal care, normal delivery, postnatal care, and family planning.

  • Perform selected minor surgical procedures and assist in major surgical operations under supervision.

  • Ensure accurate documentation of patient data in registers and individual files, maintaining patient confidentiality.

  • Oversee the pharmacy store, ensuring rational drug use, proper storage, and timely ordering of medical supplies.

  • Supervise, mentor, and train subordinate staff (nurses, midwives, clinical officer interns).

  • Participate in outbreak investigation and response (e.g., cholera, measles).

  • Adhere to infection prevention and control (IPC) standards at all times.

  • Compile and submit weekly and monthly morbidity and mortality reports.

Person Specification:

  • Essential: Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from a recognized institution.

  • Essential: Valid practicing license from the Clinical Officers Council (COC) of Kenya.

  • Essential: Minimum 3 years of continuous post-registration clinical experience.

  • Essential: At least 1 year of experience working in a humanitarian, low-resource, or remote setting.

  • Desirable: Higher National Diploma (HND) in Paediatrics, Reproductive Health, or Anaesthesia.

  • Desirable: Proficiency in computer skills and health data management.

  • Skills: Strong clinical reasoning, ability to work under pressure in a multicultural team, leadership skills, and adaptability.
